Create a Book Jacket

This is a very good way to link reading to art. Here you will find a ready-made worksheet with instructions for creating a book jacket to report on a book. There are rubrics at the end so your children know what you will be evaluating on the finished work. You may display the book jackets by genre.

For  KS3, you can also give them the chance to create the book jacket using the computer.

These are examples of different Think Tac Toe activities I have created so that children can choose how to show what they know about the book or story they have read.

It takes some time to create this kind of resource but it's really worth it. The children are more engaged and so their productions improve considerably.

Cereal Box

Here is a great idea a for book report! It includes simple instructions for the children, and the rubrics for you to assess their work.

If you have reading buddies, the children can work in pairs using this activity to film a commercial to advertise the book of their choice, as if it was cereal for the spirit! You can invite relatives for an open class readers’circle. At the end of the presentation, you can display all the cereal boxes as in a bookshop or library.  Lots of fun!
